Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO) is a regulated electric public utility. HECO is an electric utility subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (HEI) and parent company of Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. (HELCO), Maui Electric Company, Limited (MECO), HECO Capital Trust III, Renewable Hawaii, Inc. (RHI) and Uluwehiokama Biofuels Corp. (UBC). The Company is engaged in the production, purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity on the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, and Maui, Lanai and Molokai, respectively. The islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Lanai and Molokai have a combined population of approximately 95%, of the Hawaii population, and consist of a service area of 5,766 square miles. The principal communities served include Honolulu (on Oahu), Hilo and Kona (on Hawaii) and Wailuku and Kahului (on Maui). The service areas also include suburban communities, resorts, United States Armed Forces installations and agricultural operations.
